あきやすみのしゅくだい

みなさん、こにちは!

So, this week I spent most of my time watching two anime shows.  One was a show most people probably know, しんげきのきょじん, or Attack on Titan.  For those who don't know about Attack on Titan, it's basically the Game of Thrones of anime.  No one is safe, there's a lot of blood and gore, but it also tackles really deep and important issues involving politics, and the intricacies of war and what fear is.  It seems like a surface level gore-fest upon first glance, but if you take the time to really get into it, it goes a lot deeper than one would expect -- just don't get attached to the characters!

The other anime I watched is a lesser known show called ぶんごうストレイドッグス, or Bungo Stray Dogs.  It's a shorter anime about an orphan who is about to die from starvation, but is taken in by a secret agency because he has the power to turn himself into a snow tiger during the full moon.  It easily avoids simple tropes which can materialize from a story about gifted individuals, and toes the line between being a serious show and a total joke.  It has well-crafted black humor and is a bit dark, but really funny.

Both of these shows are traditional anime shows, meaning their run-time averages around twenty-four minutes (thirty with commericals).  ぶんごウトレイドッグス also has a full length movie, but I didn't get to watch that.  All things considered, I'd say I watched all of ぶんごストレイドッグス (25 episodes) and the latest season of しんげきのきょじん (12 episodes).  All in all, that comes out to 15 hours of anime consumption, so about average.  As you can probably tell from the fact that I watched all those episodes, I loved both shows, and would highly reccomend them to anyone who loves dark humor and has a strong stomach!
